The Visit opens on a small, dismal town as they prepare for the arrival of a mysterious millionairess, a former inhabitant whom they desperately hope will save their dying community. When she arrives, cloaked in grandeur, and offers to share her wealth, the townspeople are ecstatic. That is, until they learn the condition of her generosity: the town must murder one of their own.

Written by celebrated German-language dramatist Friedrich Dürrenmatt and translated by Maurice Valency, The Visit is a grotesque and twisted tragicomedy investigating the power of greed and desperation. As the town gradually transforms, the play asks: How quickly will people and institutions reshape their morality for their own benefit, and at what cost?

Pulse features original choreography from three distinct voices, woven together and performed by award-winning student dance company Dance Repertory Theatre. Drawing inspiration from modern and contemporary styles, social and communal dance forms and African diasporic dance traditions, these works explore identity, transformation, rhythm and resilience. Pulse will showcase works by guest artists Vershawn Sanders Ward and Marjani Forte-Saunders (Haruka Weiser Memorial Commission), along with faculty member Magdalena Riley.

Forte-Saunders' visit is made possible through a collaboration between UT Austin’s College of Fine Arts and Texas Performing Arts. It is supported through the Visiting Artists Chair in the College of Fine Arts.

EQUINOX will feature choreography by lecturer Quilan “Cue” Arnold alongside works by undergraduate and graduate choreographers who are shaping the landscape for the future of dance performance.
